Travel Vaccinations for the Baltic States (Estonia, Latvia & Lithuania)
The Baltic States – Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania – are popular for forest walks, lakeside cabins, city breaks in Tallinn or Riga, and visits to friends and family. But much of the region is covered in woodland and countryside, which brings a higher risk of tick-borne infections compared with the UK.
At our Travel Health Clinics in Doncaster (DN5) and Newark (NG24), we provide private travel vaccinations for the Baltic States, including protection against Tick-Borne Encephalitis (TBE), along with routine boosters such as tetanus and Hepatitis A.
📍 Available at both locations:
• Holden’s Chemist Scawsby – Doncaster (DN5)
• Holden’s Chemist Express Newark – Eton Avenue (NG24)
🩺 Why Vaccinations Matter for the Baltic States
The Baltic region is known for:
- Dense forests and countryside – ideal for hiking, camping, and hunting.
- Rural work – including seasonal farm work, forestry, and outdoor labour.
- Family homes near woodland – where ticks are very common in grass and undergrowth.
These environments carry a higher risk of Tick-Borne Encephalitis (TBE), a viral infection that affects the brain and nervous system. It is spread by tick bites and is present in parts of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
Many travellers – and even people originally from the region now living in the UK – underestimate this risk until they or someone they know is affected.
💉 Recommended Vaccines for the Baltic States
Exact recommendations depend on where you’re going, what you’ll be doing, and how long you’re staying, but commonly include:
- Tick-Borne Encephalitis (TBE) – strongly recommended if you will be walking, working or spending time in forests, fields or rural areas.
- DTP Booster – ensures protection against diphtheria, tetanus and polio; especially important if you’re hiking, cycling or working outdoors.
- Hepatitis A – considered for longer rural stays, homestays, or where food and water hygiene may be less consistent.
Our clinicians will review your plans and advise what is genuinely appropriate for your level of risk – not just a generic list.
🌲 Typical Trips We See for the Baltic States
- City breaks – Tallinn, Riga, Vilnius.
Usually DTP booster check, optional Hepatitis A for those eating widely or staying longer. - Forest cabins, lakeside holidays & hunting trips – very common in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
TBE vaccination is strongly recommended, plus a DTP booster. - Seasonal and farm work – many workers from the Baltic States travel between the UK and rural areas back home.
Long days outdoors, in fields and woodland, mean higher tick exposure. TBE and DTP become particularly important. - Visiting family in rural villages – especially if children are playing in long grass, woods, or near fields.
Even short visits can carry risk if you’re spending time outdoors.
💡 If you live or work around Newark or Lincolnshire farms and travel back to the Baltics regularly, a TBE course can give you longer-term protection for repeated trips.
🧭 How Our Baltic Travel Vaccine Service Works
- Book a travel appointment at either Doncaster or Newark using our online booking system.
- Tell us your plans – which country (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania), city or rural area, dates, and activities.
- We recommend vaccines based on your real risk (not a one-size-fits-all list).
- Get vaccinated – most vaccines can be given the same day. TBE is a course, so it’s best to start early.
📍 Local Clinics for UK Travellers & Baltic Workers
Our locations are ideal if you live in or around:
- Doncaster, Scawsby, Bentley, Cusworth, Sprotbrough and surrounding areas.
- Newark, Balderton and nearby Lincolnshire / Nottinghamshire villages – including those working seasonally on local farms.
Appointments are relaxed, friendly and confidential. We’re used to seeing both UK holidaymakers and people originally from Estonia, Latvia or Lithuania who are heading back to visit family or work.
Book Baltic States Travel Vaccines
✈️ Ideally, start your TBE and other vaccine courses 4–6 weeks before travel. If you’re leaving sooner, we can still help you reduce risk.
