🇵🇪 Travel Vaccinations for Peru — Protect Your Health at Altitude

Travelling to Peru to see Machu Picchu, explore the Amazon rainforest, or visit Lima and Cusco? Peru is one of the world’s most spectacular destinations — but changes in altitude, food and water, and mosquito exposure mean the right Peru travel vaccinations are essential.

Our Holden’s Travel Clinics in Doncaster (DN5) and Newark (NG24) offer same-day travel vaccinations, malaria advice, and altitude sickness guidance so you can explore Peru safely and confidently.

⛰️ Altitude Sickness (High Altitude Preparation)

Many travellers experience altitude sickness, especially when flying into Cusco (3,400m) or hiking in the Sacred Valley.

  • Spend the first 1–2 days acclimatising before trekking.
  • Stay hydrated and avoid alcohol during your first 24 hours at altitude.
  • Ask our clinicians about acetazolamide (Diamox) for altitude sickness prevention.
  • Do not ascend further if symptoms develop.

💡 Our pharmacists provide altitude planning, hydration strategies, and trekking first-aid kit advice.

🌡️ Health & Safety in Peru

  • Malaria: Found mainly in jungle regions such as Loreto, Madre de Dios, Ucayali. We supply suitable antimalarial tablets.
  • Mosquito-borne diseases: Dengue, Zika, and chikungunya are present — use repellent and nets.
  • Food & water: Drink bottled or boiled water; avoid ice, raw salads, and unpasteurised dairy.
  • Sun & UV: UV levels are extremely high at altitude — wear SPF 30+, a hat, and sunglasses.
